Definition

  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Hot and humid

Humid morning (2)

My weekend (make that my week) has been full of people: extremely lovely Australians, family members, friends driving across country and many, many Germans.  I'm completely exhausted.  The whirlwind will be over at the end of this week.  My lovely German friends will be gone, but I may be able to sleep and eat on a normal schedule again.  It's been hot and humid here.  Hope you're all well.

The photos are from our yard.  The one above from a humid morning the other day, and below is from today.  Click them to see them larger.
